Weave for a Day
If you've always been fascinated by the rhythmical interaction of the shuttle and reed of a loom, then you'll love this opportunity to spend a day at Fibers, learning the basics of Rigid Heddle Weaving. See the Ashford Knitters Loom here.
You'll begin by choosing yarn for your first project, usually a scarf, table runner, pillow cover or simple purse. We'll help you warp the loom and get it ready to weave, then we'll show you how easy it is to make some fabric! Most new weavers discover pretty quickly how to get their selvedges even, and it doesn't take long before people are entranced by the interplay of their hands, the colors, and the sheet magic of weaving! The warp will fly by, and soon you'll be taking your first project off the loom!
Here are some of the things new weavers are saying about Weave for a Day:
- "I've done a lot of weaving in the past -- on tapestry, card, Navajo, backstrap and other rigid heddle looms. I was surprised at how much easier and faster it was to warp the Ashford Knitters' loom warps than anything I've ever used. My project worked up quickly and the tension knobs kept it taut so I didn't have to fuss with the loom all the time. I fell in love with weaving all over again! " (BLS, Nevada City)
- "I'm making table runners fast and furiously for Christmas presents, and I absolutely love it. I've made three so far, and have another few in the planning stages. So far I've just used yarn that was left over from various projects in the past. From the very first one, I felt that I had enough instruction on our day together to set up the loom. Thank you so much for bringing this option to me. As I think I mentioned to you, my shoulder has really started to bother me when I knit. I think I just have too many repetitive motions in my life or something. The loom has given me another way to create things with yarn, and it doesn't hurt! It's perfect for me right now."
