Yarns, Etc.

Fibers carries a wide selection of yarns. The majority of our store is stocked with natural fibers -- wool, silk, cotton, hemp and other great yarns to knit or crochet with. Despite the high inventory of natural yarns, we also carry many fun novelty yarns for unique creations. It is also important to us to support smaller companies and co-ops, not just large companies--check out the section on co-ops to see which good causes you'd like to support, as well!

Our Co-Ops
The yarn industry has boomed in the last few years and with all the new and exciting novelty yarns comes a toll on the planet. Fibers strives to support socially-conscious knitting by carrying lines that are created by cooperatives around the world. From Bolivia to Vietnam to Uruguay, Fibers offers selections of yarn that you can feel confident buying.

Put your money where your heart is!

  • Manos del Uruguay has been created by Uruguayan artisans, spinners and dyers since 1968. Manos now employs almost 400 individuals to create a line of 100 colors of wool and 22 colors of cotton stria. FIBERS CARRIES THEM ALL!!

  • Mango Moon Recycled Silk is spun by Nepali women who have escaped abusive homes. Buying Mango Moon supports these women's livelihoods as they spin old silk saris (their traditional dress) into luscious new yarns. There are no dyelots so every skein is completely unique. Mango Moon also provides free pattern support to create truly stunning garments.

  • Frog Tree Alpaca is created in Bolivia by a cooperative that has been in operation for over six years. Frog Tree's mission is to "use the funds from the sale of their products to support their [Bolivian] families and worthy educational causes." Fibers carries 10 buttery-soft sport-weight colors that are a joy to knit with.

  • Lantern Moon is a fledgling company and works hand-in-hand with a cooperative that provides income, education and self-reliance for Vietnamese women and their families. Their products are created by hand from natural materials using traditional skills and include silk needle cases, totes and baskets, rare and exotic hardwood needles, even sheep doormats!

  • Pakucho, a Cottage Industry organic yarn is created from a partnership with Peruvian cotton growers. This organically grown cotton has a lower impact on the environment than conventionally grown cotton. Available in six natural colors (even a sage-green!), all Pakucho is undyed. Its color and softness intensify with washing.

  • Buying 2nd Time Cotton by Knit One Crochet Too may not be supporting a co-op but it is supporting recycling! 2nd Time Cotton is created from new textile waste originating in the apparel and textile industry. The 8-ply yarn is spun from this recycled cotton contributing to the conservation and global re-utilization of products. Fibers carries all 7 colors.
